| Who Are We? The Hillsborough Community Development Trust (HCDT) was set up in 1991 by a group of local residents. It is a charity and a company limited by guarantee. The trust is managed by a group of volunteers. These are our trustees and directors of the company. It is they who takes overall responsibility and decide on the work of the trust. The work of the Trust is also supported by a valuable group of volunteers none of them get paid. We have been able to create some jobs. We are fortunate that we have been are able to employ a business manager who carries out the day-today-day business of the Trust, a garden supervisor and a maintenance worker. We are proud to say that those involved are all local people. Our garden has an area dedicated to the memory of the football fans that tragically died at the Sheffield Wednesday ground, and can be entered through the replica Shankly Gates. |

| What Do We Do? Our aim is to make our part of Sheffield a better place to live and work. We are probably best known for saving the Walled Garden for the community and future generations. We have a continuing responsibility for this and our garden supervisor, aided by trainees on various government schemes ensures that our high standard is maintained. Through the efforts of the Trust the garden continues to be a place of beauty and tranquillity for all to enjoy. We have a separate guide to the Walled Garden. This is available from our office. From this a derelict site to this Community Activities, the Walled Garden we have two major ongoing environmental projects: Sheffield Wednesday Football Club supports us in a match day litter picking service in the streets surrounding the ground. 14 to 16 year olds do this under our supervision. The young people doing the work are given free match day tickets. More volunteers are always welcome. Wardsend Cemetery has long been neglected. The Trust has undertaken to try to clear surplus vegetation and contain growth. We aim to improve accessibility to this relatively unknown area. There are fine views to be had from the top of the cemetery and it is well worth a visit. Local history is important to us. We have developed the Sheffield Flood Trail. We have already published a book on the flood; have a flood trail guide and coasters. A flood trail logo has been designed by us and can be seen on buildings along the trail. Local groups are a feature of our work. We already Support and encourage them by helping them access funding and training. We produce a Community Directory that contains information about 70 other local groups we try to keep these in touch with each other through a bi-monthly newsletter called "Sextets" Office Services are provided at a reasonable rate to local, community groups, individuals and businesses, for example typing, CV's, photocopying, laminating and desktop publishing. The Trust will continue to work with the local Community We will continue to look after the Walled Garden. The litter-picking scheme is set to continue. Conservation of Wardsend Cemetery is a huge Challenge and we need help. We plan to develop further the Flood Trail. Books on local history are planned. I Taster courses are to be set up. The Trust will continue to provide office services to the community. Development of the Neepsend Power Station Landfill site is envisaged. We can only do these with your help. |
